2020 Gwangju Asia Forum Ⅱ

  

The May 18 Memorial Foundation holds the 2020 Gwangju Asia Forum Ⅱ(Forum Ⅱ hereafter) on October 28 in succession of Forum Ⅰ held in May. Forum Ⅱconsists of two sessions – one online for overseas speakers and the other offline for in-Korea ones.

 

This forum will have three sessions with 17 speakers. At the special session under the theme of “The Necessity and Meanings of Designating May 18 As Universal Day for the Prevention of Militarism and Authoritarianism,” participants will engage with their speeches and discussion on this very theme.

 

The 2020 Gwangju Asia Forum was held under the grand theme of “Solidarity for Justice and Peace in Asia.” Forum Ⅰconsisted five sessions: Democracy and Transitional Justice, Retrogression of Asia’s Democracy and Counter-Action, State Violence and Women, Emerging Voices, and Laureates’ Summit. Forum Ⅱ has three sessions: Memories and Solitary, The Necessity and Meanings of Designating May 18 As Universal Day for the Prevention of Militarism and Authoritarianism.”

 

Speech write-ups and their video clips will be unloaded on the specially created website of the International Affairs Department of the May 18 Memorial Foundation in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the May 18 Democratic Uprising. Questions and answers on speeches will be available via its bulletin board.

 

The Opening Ceremony of Forum Ⅱ will go in sync with the 2020 Gwangju Prize for Human Rights Award Ceremony.
