The Undisclosed Collection about the May 18 Democratization Movement

Asahi Newspaper, May 18 Democratic Uprising Archives, and the May 18 Memorial Foundation co-host the undisclosed collection about the May 18 Democratization Movement from May 11 to July 31, 2022, on the third floor of the May 18 Democratic Uprising Archives. 

 

The May 18 Memorial Foundation and Asahi Newspaper will exhibit the undisclosed collection about the May 18 Democratization Movement. This exhibition will show the two hundred valuable materials for the first time that the deceased Aoi Katso(靑井捷夫) possessed, for example, the pictures that he took, his admission ticket as a journalist, the camera that he used, and so on. A Journalist, Aoi Katso, had worked for Asahi Newspaper. He arrived at Gwangju on May 19, 1980, and covered the truth of the democratic uprising from May 20 to 28. These valuable materials are provided by the bereaved family, Asahi Newspaper, and the May 18 Memorial Foundation. And it can be shown to the people after forty-two years through this exhibition.

 

Significantly, the May 18 Foundation will show the records given by Aoi Katso to a journalist Jee Jongick at KBS, and then he donated them. Jee jongick received them while covering the news coverage activities about the May 18 democratic uprising. He visited Aoi Katso`s house in person in 2016. The May 18 Memorial Foundation will display the reporting plan, the schedule of visits in Korea, etc.
