The May 18 Memorial Foundation announces the application for the May 18 Academy 2018.
About May 18 Academy
May 18 Academy is a two-week education/training program especially designed for international civil society activists working for human rights, democracy and peace. The Academy is a unique blend of special lectures and workshops, visits to Korean organizations and guided field trips to places of significance in Korean modern history.
The basic idea about the Academy is to promote the May 18 spirit and create a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences among activists in solidarity with democratic and human rights struggles. It also introduces the participants with Korean history and a variety of democratic movements in Korea, including the May 18 Democratization Movement in 1980, through both theoretical and practical experiences.
Launched in 2014, the May 18 Academy strives to contribute to the development of democracy and human rights throughout Asia by hosting 20 invitees from all over the world, specifically from Asia, who have been working for human rights and peace organizations in their respective countries. The total 20 participants may consist of less than 10 from the recommendation made by our network organizations but they will have to also follow the similar application procedure. The emphasis is on organizational partnership, so the applicants endorsed by their organizations will be given a priority in the selection process.
