Statement on the Release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi The May 18 Memorial Foundation would like to convey the message of welcome and joy on the occasion of Aung San Suu Kyi, the General Secretary of the National League for Democracy and The Gwangju Prize for Human Rights Award 2004 winner's release from house arrest. We have been shown concern about serious violation of freedom and human rights for numerous years inflicted on Burma. We also have been conducting domestic and international cooperation to condemn the Burmese military junta's oppression which has crackdowned many people who have been working on democracy in Burma. Her release is a outcome of the struggle of democracy defenders, all Burmese people and the hope of those who are in exile, as well as the result of consistent international communities support on democracy in Burma.Still, however, we are concerned about the release of two thousand prisoners of conscience including Min Ko Naing, the laureate of The 2009 Gwangju Prize for Human Rights.Commemorating the expiration of her house arrest, We would like to invite Aung San Suu Kyi, the winner of The Gwangju Prize for Human Rights 2004 to The May commemoration event in 2011. Once again, we sincerely would like to greet her release in collaboration with all laureates of GPHR.Also, We hope for the release of physical detention on Irom Sharmila struggling against Armed Forces Special Power Act in Manipur, India.15 November 2010
