News: Thailand starts then halts deportation of Karen refugees to Burma
Name     Date 2010.02.08     Hit 518
Three families, including a nine month old baby, have been forced to return to Burma by the Thai military. However, shortly after the deportation of ethnic Karen refugees began, the process was halted. The halt coincided with the arrival of foreign diplomats and NGOs.

Burma Campaign UK reports: "Although the Royal Thai Government and local and military representatives have officially stated that they will not force people to return, in practice they are applying significant pressure on the refugees to return."

Consequently the Thai military are taking measure to conceal their actions, such as confiscating one camp leader's mobile phone, and dressing in civilian clothing when removing refugees.
